HAYES CENTER, Nebraska -- Johnny R. Scott, 65, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte, Nebraska.

Johnny was born Sept. 25, 1945, to parents Reese Raymond and Jessie Mae (Jones) Scott. He was one of three children. In 1963, Johnny graduated from Bradford High School in Starke, Florida where the family made their home.

Following his graduation, Johnny enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving his country as a radio operator and morse interceptor. He was honorably discharged in July of 1970.

On Aug. 8, 1970, Johnny married Cheryl (Fowler) Scott in Kingsland, Georgia. To this union two children were born: son, Joshua and daughter, Stephanie. The family made their home in Jacksonville, Florida before moving to Hayes Center in 1976. While in Hayes Center, the family owned and operated Scott's Grocery.

Johnny was a member of the UCC Congregational Church, Lion's Club, Palisade VFW, American Legion and a volunteer with the Hayes Center Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting, collecting coins, singing and dancing. He was very active in Hayes Center's community events, always serving with a smile.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Reese and Jessie.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl of Hayes Center; son, Joshua (Tiffiny) Scott and children, Brady and Kegan of Gilbert, Arizona; daughter, Stephanie (Dustin) Tinsman and children, Gauge and Brodey of Hastings, Nebraska; and two sisters, Elizabeth (Michael) Garza and children Tosha, Candice and Priscilla of Amelia, Florida, and JoAnn (Bill) Diddell and children, Dean, Scott, Shannon and Marnie of Jacksonville.

Visitation for Mr. Scott is Sunday, May 29, from 5-8 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook, Nebraska.

Memorial services are at the Hayes Center School on Tuesday, May 31, at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Jean Miller officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Hayes Center Cemetery.
