HAYES CENTER, Nebraska -- Jesse Ray Korell, 27, lifetime resident of rural Hayes Center, passed away Sunday (Jan. 16, 2011), as a result of a farming accident.

Jesse was born Oct. 1, 1983, in Grant, Nebraska to Kenneth E. and Christie L. (Rutherford) Korell. He graduated from Hayes Center High School with the class of 2002, earning all-state defensive end in football.

Jesse was employed at Hayes County Co-op and was an instrumental part of the family farm and ranch. He raised and operated his own cattle herd.

He was a member of the Hayes Center Volunteer Fire and Rescue. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with family and friends in his free time.

Preceding him in death was his paternal grandfather, Robert "Bob" Korell in 2007.

Survivors include his parents, Kenny and Christie Korell of Hayes Center; brother, Kevin Korell of Hayes Center; sister, Brooke and husband, Ryan Amateis of Broadwater, Nebraska; niece, Kambrey Lynn Amateis of Broadwater; maternal grandparents, Raymond and Jimmie Rutherford of Hayes Center; paternal grandmother, Neva Jane Korell of Culbertson, Nebraska; numerous, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family; and a host of friends.

Memorials may be given in his name to the Hayes Center Volunteer Fire Department.

Visitation is Wednesday, 1-8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Funeral services are Thursday, 10 a.m., at the Hayes Center Gymnasium with Pastor Jean Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Culbertson Cemetery.
