FIRTH, Nebraska -- Harry M. "Max" Wood, 77, died suddenly Saturday (Dec. 11, 2010), in Lincoln, Nebraska.

He was born on Dec. 3, 1933, in Marianna, Arkansas to George and Patricia (Howe) Wood. He graduated from high school in Trenton, Nebraska with the class of 1952 and spent three years in the U.S. Army serving in Korea.

He married his wife of 55 years Myrna Williams on April 30, 1955, in Trenton, to this union three children were born; Gregory Wood, Peggy Wood-Murphy, and Jane Wood-Bennett.

Max was an accomplished carpenter working many years for Kingery Construction, George Cook Construction, and Bill Wood Construction.

He was a member of Cortland United Church in Cortland, Nebraska.

He loved gardening, woodworking, fishing and flying in his younger years. In the past twenty-five years, he enjoyed improving, updating, and enjoying their acreage in rural Firth, Nebraska. He took great pride in the custom touches he had added to the home and property.

He lives in the memories of his wife Myrna of Firth, son, Greg and wife, Wanda (Wilhelms) Wood; daughters, Peggy and husband, Ron Murphy and Jane and husband, Chad Bennett, all of Lincoln; grandson, Tyson Westphal and fiancé, Rebecca Schainost, granddaughter, Tamra (Westphal) and husband, Matt Jiskra; one great-granddaughter, Kaylen Jane Jiskra, all of Lincoln; brother, Bill and wife, Doris Wood of Lincoln and C. Burge of Denver, Colorado; sister-in-law, Dolores Wood of Littleton, Colorado; brother-in-law, Jerry and wife, Jan (Wray) Williams of Trenton; many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Pat Wood; brother, John; sister-in-law, Judy Wood; and parents-in-law, Harold and Lucy Williams.

Funeral services are Friday, 10:30 a.m., at Cortland United Church. Interment is in Lincoln Memorial Park.

Visitation is Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 South 14 Street, Lincoln.
