SELDEN, Kansas -- Rick Hickert, 55, died Friday (May 14, 2010), at his residence in rural Selden.

He was born July 4, 1954, to Quinten Joseph and Patricia Ann (Campbell) Hickert at Norton, Kansas. He was raised in Clayton, Kansas, attending school in Clayton and Jennings, Kansas. He graduated from Jenning High School in 1973.

On June 9, 1978, he married Betty Wessel in Selden. They lived in Clayton until 1982, then moving to Selden. He was a farmer and worked in construction.

He was a Sheridan County volunteer firefighter and was a storm spotter for 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Hickert of Selden; two daughters, Jennifer and husband, Scott Diers of Salina, Kansas and Danielle and husband, Cody Young of Cheney, Kansas; two brothers, Tom Hickert of Clayton and Tim and wife, Dar Hickert of Hays, Kansas; three sisters, Rose and husband, Vernon Beal of Smithville, Missouri, Jean Ann and husband, Robert Bowman of Norton, and Linette and husband, Ernie Klaus of Hays; a step-sister, Patty and husband, John Gall of Norton; and one grandson.

Services will be Monday, 10:30 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Selden. Interment will be at the Selden Cemetery.

A vigil service is set for Sunday, 7 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Selden.

Visitation is Sunday, 1-8 p.m., and Monday, 8 a.m., until the time of the service at the funeral home

Memorials are being accepted.
