Annabel Huston, age 83, died Saturday (March 20, 2010) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

She was born on May 6, 1926, in Holyoke, Colo., to Joshua and Grace L. (Scott) Walcott. She graduated from Holyoke High School in 1942, at the age of 16. After graduation, Annabel went to work for Fosters Lumber Company and Co-op in Holyoke, Colo., for 2 years.

On Aug. 16, 1944, Annabel was united in marriage to Harry James Huston in St. Francis, Kan. To this union, three daughters were born, Sharon, Joletta, and Jacqueline.

Annabel and Harry lived around Enders from 1946-1988. Annabel went to work at Enders Grade School as the cook. She also worked part time as a bookkeeper at the Farmers Co-op in Enders, bookkeeper for A & M Garage, Harry's Repair, Nebraska Games and Park (Enders Division), made drapes working for Peggy's Drapery Business in Enders, and worked as part-time clerk at Enders Café and Lakers Delight. After Harry retired from the Nebraska Games and Park, they moved to McCook in 1988.

Annabel loved to sew, cook, and spend time in her vegetable and flower garden. Her favorite time was being with her children and grandchildren. She often played the piano for family gatherings and the whole family would sing together.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Joshua and Grace Walcott; her husband, Harry Huston on Dec. 25, 2008; an infant sister, Mary Walcott and three sisters, Gertrude and her husband, Cecil Likens, Mabel and her husband, Van Carruthers, and Edna Harmon; and two brothers, Clarence Earl and wife, Minnie and Robert Walcott and wife, Ila.

Survivors include her three daughters, Sharon and husband, Lynn Youngquist, of Beaver City, Joletta Hogsett of North Platte and Jacqueline and husband, Keith Hogsett, of Fort Scott, Kan.; brother-in-law, Everette Harmon of Holyoke, Colo.; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Visitation is today, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friends may sign her book at the funeral home or go online at www.carpenterbreland.com to extend condolences.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 24, 2010, 11 a.m., at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
