IMPERIAL -- Gladys Elaine Hoff, 83, died Thursday (Jan. 28, 2010) at the St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

She was born April 3, 1926, in Imperial to Ralph D. and Minta E. (Speer) Grosbach. She grew up on a farm and attended schools near Enders, graduating in 1943 from Chase County High School in Imperial. After graduation she attended the University of Nebraska and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1947.

On Aug. 11, 1947, she married Dwight E. Hoff and moved to Wauneta. She owned and operated a grocery store in Wauneta for 20 years before moving to Imperial in 1968. She then owned and operated Hoff's Superfoods in Imperial for 12 years before retiring in 1980. After retirement she worked with her husband doing woodworking and decorative painting.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Imperial, the Alpha Xi Delta Woman's Fraternity, Eastern Star, the Chase County Hospital Auxiliary and the National Decorative Artists.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Gill; her sister, Maxine Gennaro and brothers, Ronald and Donald Grosbach.

Survivors include her husband, Dwight Hoff; one son, Karl Hoff of Carbondale, Colo.; one daughter, Lynne Uhl and husband, David of Denver, Colo.; one son, Paul Hoff and wife, Jennie of Austin, Texas; brother-in-law, Vincent Gennaro; two sister-in-laws, Alberta and Paulene Grosbach and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were Tuesday at the United Methodist Church of Imperial with the Revs. Kay Alnor and Robert Call officiating. Interment followed at Riverside Cemetery in Wauneta.

A memorial has been established to the Chase County Hospital Foundation or the Imperial Public Library.
