BEAVER CITY -- Irma Laverne Mart, 98, died Wednesday (Dec. 16, 2009) at Beaver City Manor, in Beaver City.

She was born Aug. 17, 1911, at Hendley, to Robert (Rob) and Louise (Kirste) Martin. She was raised south of Hendley and graduated from Hendley High School. Following graduation she attended Kearney State Teachers College for one year. She taught Country School for several years near Hendley.

On Jan. 26, 1935, she married Oscar Norval Mart in Norton, Kan. They were cattle breeders and farmed in the Rexford, Kan., area until 1966, when they moved to Hendley and continued until their retirement in the 1970s. In March of 2004, Irma moved to Beaver City Manor where she resided until her death.

She was a member of Hendley United Methodist Church, and later transferred membership to First United Methodist Church at Beaver City, she was also a member of United Methodist Women and Royal Neighbors of America.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norval, her parents, sisters; Merna Smith and Glenva Hinkle; grandson, Mitchell Mart; and great-grandson, Dylan Rhoten.

Survivors include her son, Robert Mart of Grand Island; daughter, Novella and husband, Terry Rhoten of Dodge City, Kan.; brother, Bobby Martin and wife, Burdella of Arapahoe; sister, Neva Longsine of Central City; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorial services will be Saturday, at 1 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City, with the Rev. Michael Flury officiating. Burial will follow at Hendley Cemetery.

Viewing and visitation is Friday, until 8 p.m., and prior to services Saturday, at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City.
