OBERLIN --Raymond Edward Kircher, 87, died Tuesday (Aug. 18, 2009) at Decatur County Hospital in Oberlin.

He was born Nov. 4, 1921, in Indianola, to Edd and Rose (Haag) Kircher. He grew up on the family farm near Indianola and attended Red Willow High School, graduating in 1939.

He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps and served during World War II. He returned to the family farm, where he worked as a farmer. On June 5, 1948, he married Eleanor Lytle. They lived on the farm until 2001, when they moved to Oberlin.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, VFW, American Legion, Mini Sappa Antique Association and Tri-State Threshers Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edd and Rose Kircher; wife, Eleanor on April 26, 2005; and sister and brother-in-law, Marie and George Hummel.

Survivors include his daughter, Liane and husband, Robert Martin of Herndon; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday, 10 a.m., at Sacred Hearth Catholic Church in Oberlin with the Rev. Mark Berland officiating. Interment will be in the Indianola Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin with a vigil service at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be given in his name.
