CULBERTSON -- Boyd Delane Miller died Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at his home in Culbertson after a courageous battle with Lou Gehrig's disease. He was 67 years old.

Boyd was born Sept. 4, 1941, in Stapleton to Lloyd Dewayne and Halcyon Victoria (Lutes) Miller. He graduated from Indianola High School in 1960 and continued his education at McCook College. He served with the National Guard from 1960 until 1961.

He was united in marriage to Nancy Jean (McCormick) Manary on Dec. 14, 1991, at Grainton. Together they combined their families and loved six children. They made their home in Culbertson where Boyd was employed by Burlington Northern Railroad as a signal maintainer until his health no longer permitted him to work.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson and Burlington Northern Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen. He loved to throw horseshoes and play tennis and won many trophies in competition including the Senior Games at Kearney.

He was an avid golfer and was an instrumental part of planning, organizing and building the Culbertson golf course and walking trail. Among other favorites included hunting and fishing. His most enjoyment came from telling stories and spending time with his grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Lloyd and Halcyon Miller; two brothers, Jarol and Jesse Miller; son-in-law, Dale Emhovick; grandson, Shane Miller; and brother-in-law, Eldon Blake.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Miller of Culbertson; former wife, Barbara Masur of Culbertson; sons, Todd Miller and wife, Teri and Travis Miller and wife, Brenda, all of Culbertson and step-son, Rob Manary of Wallace; daughters, Cheryl Miller of Kearney, Diane Emhovick of Maxwell and Myndi and husband, Brad Schumer of North Platte; one brother, Casey Miller of Denver, Colo.; sister, Patricia Blake of Avon, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Judy Miller of Edison and Mitzi Hargis of St. Joseph, Mo.; 13 grandchildren, Sarah and Josh Emhovick; Taylor, Andrea, Cierra and Kaylee Miller; William, Robert and Blake Miller; Bradee and Nathan Manary; and Gavin and Kason Schumer; and a host of family and friends.

A memorial service will be Saturday, June 13, 2009, 11 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson with Pastor Richard Karr officiating. Inurnment will be in the Miller Cemetery near Ringold at 3:30 p.m.
