Surveyor disputes statement attributed to him during county board meeting

HOLDREGE -- A statement made by an Indianola-area farmer during a Red Willow County commissioners' public hearing Monday, accredited to a surveyor from Phelps County and reported in a Gazette news story Tuesday appears to be erroneous.

The surveyor, Brian Langenberg, R.L.S., of Tagge Engineering Consultants Inc. of Holdrege, said he does not disagree with the location of the section line of land involved in an argument between Phil and Janice Bamesberger and Stan and Steve Quigley.

The Bamesbergers want the old road, Road 221, vacated or abandoned; the Quigleys want its status to remain as it is.

Steve Quigley told commissioners Monday during a public hearing on the requests that the surveyor from Phelps County that they hired disagrees with Red Willow County roads superintendent Gary Dicenta's location of the section line between the Section 5 land, owned by Quigleys, and the Section 8 land, owned by Bamesberger.

Langenberg said Wednesday morning that Quigley's statement is wrong. Langenberg wrote in an e-mail to the Gazette, "We were hired by the Quigleys to verify the field measurements of a previously recorded survey.

"This was conducted and no discrepancies were found in the measurements, therefore we did not disagree with the current section line location."

Commissioners listened to testimony from the Bamesbergers and the Quigleys for almost an hour and a half Monday morning.

The board members will research the requests and supporting information, and make a decision at their meeting Monday, at 9:15 a.m., in their room on the third floor of the courthouse in McCook.
