Paul Hamilton Gilbert, 98, died Tuesday (July 29, 2008) at Community Hospital in McCook.

He was born Nov. 22, 1909, at Fulton, Ark., where he received his education.On March 1, 1942, he entered the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on March 4, 1945.

After his discharge, he returned to Garberville, Calif., where he was owner and operator of Redwood Barbershop for 22 years. He later moved to Grants Pass, Ore., and most recently to McCook. He was residing at Hillcrest Nursing Home at the time of his death.

He was a past-member of the Lions Club, American Legion and Veteran's of Foreign Wars.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Augustus and Jonnie Gilbert.

Survivors include his daughter, Celia and husband, Glenn Robertson of Fort Orchard, Wash., and many friends at Hillcrest.

There will be no local service. He will be buried at Eagle Point National Cemetery at Eagle Point, Ore.
