Dual Movie Review - Wall*E & Wanted

I watched both movies this weekend and couldn't decide which one to review, so I did both!

First up, Wall*E.

Rated G and starring the voices of Sigourney Weaver and John Ratzenberger.

Wall*E is the story of a lonesome robot on a future earth. The future Earth has been deserted by humans as it has been so trashed that people cannot live there. Wall*E is the last of the robots programmed to clean up the mess, however he is very curious and plays with a lot of the 'trash' that he finds. Then, a robot named EVE shows up and is looking for signs of life. Eve meets Wall*E who falls in robot love with her. The rest of the movie is about Eve and Wall*E and the return of humans to planet Earth.

Wall*E is a sci-fi movie with very little dialogue and lots of heart. The entire movie has Wall*E overcoming big odds to help save the humans, as well as return to Earth. It is quite mesmerizing to watch the incredible animated visuals. This movie is breathtakingly gorgeous. The lighting effects and wonderfully edited backgrounds breathe life into the animated world. This movie is worth watching just to see the pretty computer animation. But, after you get over that, the movie itself is pretty good.

Wall*E has lots of boring parts. I found myself squirming in my seat trying to keep myself interested in the flick. It was the same situation I found myself in when I watched Finding Nemo for the first time. That movie bored me to death the first time I watched it and now I enjoy it a lot. I wonder if this is how Wall*E will turn out for me, as it is getting rave reviews from most critics and did excellent at the Box Office with over $60 million in the bank. I'm excited to see it again when I'm not as tired and in the comforts of my own home.

Wall*E was a good show even though I was bored through some of it. I believe that I will enjoy this flick much in the same way as I enjoyed Finding Nemo after I was originally bored with it. That we will have to wait and see on, but for now, Wall*E is the number one film in the nation and the best reviewed film of the year from a consensus of critics, so it's well worth your time and money to go check it out!

WANTED

We are going to switch gears and talk about Wanted now.

Wanted is rated R for strong bloody violence throughout, pervasive language, and some sexuality.

Stars James McAvoy, Angelina Jolie, and Morgan Freeman.

Wanted tells the story of Wes who is a modern day worker in a cubicle that seems to trap him in his daily routines. He is a nobody and he knows it. Soon, he encounters a woman named Fox who enlists him into a secret society to avenge his estranged father's death. Wes, who never met his father, decides to accept the invitation to get out of his boring life. From there, the movie jumps on at high speed and never lets down as Wes trains, kills, and eventually goes after the man who killed his father.

The movie is a high octane jolt of energy from beginning to end with lots of awesome special effects that explode on the screen with an adrenaline fueled rock soundtrack pushing it along at breakneck speeds. This movie is violent and bloody and loves it. The flick shines in the fact that it might be making you uncomfortable watching the up-close and in-your-face visuals. But, at the same time, throws so many original thoughts at you, that it's like watching something amazing for the first time. Of course, you are, as some of the special effects have never been seen before or at least used in this way before. The combination of great action, wonderful special effects, and groundbreaking new ways of implementing it all together create a can't miss movie for any fan of action.

The flick also has some great comedy bits that will have you laughing out loud. Granted, some of the comedy bits are just as violent and disturbing as the straight up action pieces, but it still makes you laugh out loud. This flick is getting great reviews across the board and opened very strong at $51 million, especially with Wall*E taking $60 million in the same weekend. I highly recommend this flick as I really enjoyed the ride. Sure, some of it is cliche and some of the plot is reminiscent of another great movie that came out back in the '70's, but overall a great movie.

Both flicks are playing at Cinema 3 in McCook. You can get showtimes at www.fridleytheatres.com. If you know what flick we are referencing in regards to Wanted, post it in the comments and we'll see if anybody gets it.

  • We saw Wall-e last night and loved it. It was a clean movie that you could take children of any age to. Also, the humor throughout the movie was great. I never thought that I could enjoy a movie so much with so little talking. I recommend that you a least give it a try because we really liked it.
