OBERLIN -- Loyl J. Wilson, 85, died Wednesday (April 17, 2008) at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

He was born Dec. 19, 1922, in Decatur County to John A. and Irene (Hedley) Wilson. He grew up on a farm southwest of Oberlin and attended North Valley School.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1946-1949. He married Esther Bauer on Jan. 13, 1942. They lived in Oberlin until 1949, when they moved to Custer S.D. He returned to Oberlin 1964. He was a heavy equipment operator for Decatur County Road and Bridge Department.

He was a member of the Oberlin American Legion Post No. 70.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Esther on June 6, 2005; and two brothers, Lyle Wilson and an infant brother.

Survivors include his sons, Jay and wife, Karen Wilson of Great Bend, Kan., and Don Wilson of Loveland, Colo.; daughters, Dixie and husband, Dennis Nickel of Manhattan, Kan., and Donna and husband, Russ Stanley of Lincoln; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

His body was cremated. Services are not planned at this time.
