IMPERIAL -- Mary Magdalen Mullanix, 90, died Saturday (March 8, 2008) at Imperial Manor Nursing Home in Imperial.

She was born Nov. 28, 1917, in Cass County near Avoca, to Nicholas Louis and Clara Helen (Jorgensen) Kohl. She moved with her family to Chase County, where she grew up and attended school. She graduated from Chase County High School in 1935. She then attended Barnes Business College in Denver, Colo., for two years.

She worked for Meadow Gold for two years and for the Federal Bureau of Investigation for one year.

She married Laurence Thomas Mullanix on Oct. 26, 1946, at Grant. They settled and farmed near Lamar until 1972, when they moved to the Imperial proper. She moved to Hutchinson, Kan., due to health reasons, returning to Imperial in December of 2007.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Laurence; son, Robert; and one infant brother.

Survivors include her daughters, Lora O'Brien and husband, Dan of McCook and Maribeth Dawson and fiance, Zan Borders of Hutchinson, Kan.; sons, Dave Mullanix and wife, Colleen of Lamar, Russ Mullanix and wife, Darla of Gordon, Dan Mullanix and wife, Janie of Champion and Phil Mullanix of Imperial; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, 10 a.m., MT, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Imperial with the Rev. Bernard Lorenz officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.

Visitation is today until 6 p.m., MT at Liewer Funeral Home in Imperial.

Rosary is today at 7 p.m., MT at the church.

A memorial has been established to the Imperial Public Library.
