ARAPAHOE -- Ervin August William Petermann, 86, died Friday (Dec. 21, 2007), at C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center in Arapahoe.

He was born March 5, 1921, at Arapahoe to Frank and Margaret (Monter) Petermann. He grew up on the family farm north of Arapahoe and attended Immanuel Lutheran School, graduating from the eighth grade. He attended Arapahoe High School, graduating in 1940.

He served in the U.S. military from 1942-1945.

On June 23, 1946, he married Beata Ziebell. They made their home north of Arapahoe and farmed for many years. In 1954, they moved on the Herman and Anna Ziebell farm where they lived until moving into Arapahoe in 2004.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Layman League of Arapahoe. He also served as a board member for the Arapahoe Coop.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Oscar Petermann.

Survivors include his wife, Beata Petermann of Arapahoe; two sons, Marcus and wife, Joyce Petermann of Papillion and Marlin and wife, Cynthia Petermann of Omaha; two brothers, Martin and wife, Norma Petermann of Holdrege and Ken and wife, Colleen Petermann of Ravenna; three sisters, Alice Ziebell of Chula Vista, Calif., Dorothy and husband, Leon Dickmeyer of Arapahoe and Gladys and husband, Armin Leising also of Arapahoe; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday, 10 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe with the Rev. David Otten officiating. Burial will be at Immanuel Cemetery in Arapahoe with military rites provided by Burton's Bend VFW Post No. 9357.

Viewing and visitation will be Wednesday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe and prior to the services Thursday at the church.
