BENKELMAN â€" Thelma B. Pettit, 83, died Sunday (Oct. 21, 2007), at the Sara Ann Hester Memorial Home in Benkelman.

She was born May 6, 1924, on her family's farm in Cheyenne County, Kan., to Oscar and Bertha (Martin) Gunther and attended country school near her home.  She was a graduate of Bird City High School, and taught country school in Cheyenne County for several years.

On Jan. 29, 1945, she married Floyd Pettit at Bird City. They moved to Dundy County where they farmed for many years.

She was a member of the Sunflower Club for many years, and was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Benkelman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Bertha Gunther; and three brothers.

Survivors include her huband, Floyd Pettit of Benkelman; two sons, David Pettit and wife, Julie of Portland, Ore., and Terry Pettit of Loveland, Colo.; two grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday, 10:30 a.m., at Forch Funeral Chapel in Benkelman with Marcine Farmer officiating.  Interment will follow services at the Benkelman Cemetery.  At her request, the casket will remain closed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the National Alzheimer's Association.
