Loretta Marguerite (Joyce) Cappel died Sept. 11, 2007, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, at the age of 95 years, nine months, and eight days.

She was born Dec. 3, 1911, to Walter and Catherine (Sanders) Joyce in Clay County.  She grew up on a farm between Harvard and Sutton, graduating from Harvard High School in 1930.  She came to Southwest Nebraska along with her twin sister, Charlotte to teach school. She taught school in Frontier County, District 25, for three years then in Hitchcock County, south of the Old Stone Church, for two years. 

On May 28, 1936, she married Glen Cappel at McCook They farmed west of McCook for many years.  They moved into McCook in 1960. 

Loretta was a 4-H leader for many years.  Other interests included refinishing and upholstering furniture and bowling, having belonged to a bowling league for many years.  She was an avid gardener and had a special love for her roses.  She shared her talents with others, delivering bouquets of flowers to St. Catherine's Hospital, the Dominican Sisters Convent and Hillcrest Nursing home plus sharing them with her family and friends. 

She was a caring neighbor, visiting and taking care of the sick and homebound. Loretta worked outside her home as a nurse's aide at both Cambridge Hospital and Hillcrest Nursing Home. 

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, St. Patrick's Altar Society, and the BPOE Does.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Glen in 1988; daughter, Geraldine Palmer in 2002; son-in-law, Larry Palmer in 2006; a great grandson, Justin Kraft; and her 15 siblings, one Blue Baby; nine brothers, Walter, William, Martin, Lawrence, Ambrose (infant), Myran, Marcellus, Vincent and Kenneth: five sisters, Wilhelmina, Eileen, twin, Charlotte, Catherine and Mary Magdelan (infant).

Loretta is survived by one daughter, Donna and her husband, Fred Callum of Rockwall, Texas; two sons, Claude and wife, Delores and Dick and wife, Kathie both of McCook; one sister, Rose Peter of Sutton; a brother, Joe Joyce and wife, Terri of Huntington Station, Long Island, N.Y.; 18 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; two step granddaughters; 14 step great grandchildren; and one step great-great grandson. 

Memorials are being accepted to St. Patrick's School, Hillcrest Nursing Home or in her name. 

The Rosary will be recited Friday at 7 p.m., at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 2 p.m., at St. Patrick's Church with Fr. Gary Brethour and Fr. Lawrence Ejiofo officiating.  Burial will be at St. Patrick's Calvary Cemetery. 

Visitation will be today until 8 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m. until the time of the rosary.
