CAMBRIDGE -- Jean C. Carse, 88, died Tuesday (June 12, 2007) at the Cambridge Manor.

She was born in Stratton, May 25, 1919, to Ulysses S. and Lulu (Conner) Burks. She attended and graduated from Stratton High School. She went to Kearney State College where she took normal training, she then returned to the area and taught rural school.

She taught elementary school for 32 years in Hayes Center.

She was united in marriage to Leon B. Carse in June of 1945.  The couple made their home on a farm between Hayes Center and Palisade. He preceded her in death in 1994. She then moved to McCook and lived at Highland Park. 

She was a Pink Lady at Community Hospital in McCook, a member of the United Methodist Church, Methodist Women, Retired Teachers, Jolly Jane's Extension Club and held many offices in the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leon; four brothers, Paul and Johns Burks and two in infancy; three sisters, Gladys Pierce, Grace Cushing, and Lilly Jones.

Survivors include her daughter, Susan and husband, Gene Witte of Cambridge; two sons, James and wife, Elizabeth Carse of Monroe, Ga., and Bruce Carse of Girdwood, Alaska; two sisters, Ruby Rains of Stratton and Lulu Bailey of Phoenix, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m., at Trinity United Methodist Church in Cambridge with the Rev. David Rowe officiating.  Interment will be at 2 p.m. (CST) at the Palisade Cemetery. 

Visitation will be Saturday 3-8 p.m., and Sunday 1-8 p.m.

Memorials may be left in her name at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge.
