Eva Lucile Dunn

MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. -- Eva Lucile Dunn, a 56 year resident of Manhattan Beach, Calif., died Wednesday (May 16, 2007) in Playa Vista, Calif.

Born on a farm north of Indianola, Eva was 82 when she died. Eva was a member of the Manhattan Community Church.

Eva was an ambitious young woman when she left Nebraska to find work in Denver, Colorado. In 1946 she became a stewardess for Western Airlines. She remained at Western in Denver, as well as Los Angeles, until 1951. At that time she married Western pilot Jimmy Dunn and they settled in Manhattan Beach to raise their family.

Eva and Jimmy were successful business owners in the South Bay for over 50 years, but Eva's favorite job was being a mother to her children Mike and Michelle, as well as a grandmother.

Both children were graduates of Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach, and granddaughter Jamie has continued the tradition.

Eva was a superb cook and hostess, and a dedicated wife and parent. She loved to play piano and was a gifted seamstress, but also had a keen business mind and enviable bookkeeping skills.

She and Jimmy traveled all over the world together, and enjoyed a second home in Honolulu for 30 years.

Eva is survived by husband James Dunn, son Mike Dunn and daughter-in-law Tris Dunn, granddaughter Jamie Dunn, and daughter Michelle Dunn, all of Manhattan Beach. She is also survived by her brother Lowell Coburn and sister-in-law Twila of Fremont, Nebraska, and her sister Rosalie Wittman and brother-in-law Paul of Palm Desert, California. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Valeria Coburn, and sister Opal Coburn.

The memorial service will be at Rice Mortuary Chapel in Torrance, Calif., on Sunday, 1 p.m. A Reception will follow in Rice's Lighthouse Reception Room from 2- 4 p.m. Burial was in Blair Cemetery, in Camdenton, Mo., on May 23, 2007.
