Verna Leisetta Brehm died Monday (May 14, 2007) at Hillcrest Nursing Home.  She was 89 years old. 

She was born May 8, 1918, in Clay County. She attended school in Clay Center finishing the eighth grade.  She was baptized in the German Congregational Church in Clay Center.

Verna worked in the hospital in Stratton and enjoyed caring for the elderly.  She enjoyed crafts of all kinds and was an excellent seamstress.  Her passion in life was her faith and her cats.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Anna Brehm Ross; step-father, Henry Ross; sister, Caroline Ross Wallace; and two step-brothers, Dan and Elmer Ross.

Survivors include her sister, DeLoris Altman of Culbertson and several nephews and niece.

Memorials may be given in her name to the American Cancer Society.

Visitation is today until 5 p.m. and Wednesday, 8:30 a.m.-8 p.m.  Friends may go online at www.carpenterbreland.com to extend condolences.

Funeral services will be Thursday, 2 p.m., at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating.  Burial will be in the Culbertson Cemetery.
