DICKENS -- Stanley Weston Brown, 83, died Saturday (April 21, 2007) at Dickens.

He was born Sept. 4, 1923, to Exie Russell and Laura Taylor Brown in Purdum. He grew up in the Palisade area where he attended school and worked for area farmers.

During World War II he worked for the CCC Program around Arapahoe and Beaver City. He also worked transporting German prisoners of war to and from farms in the Palisade area for work camps.

On Aug. 17, 1948, he married Valda Tidwell in Oberlin and they moved to North Platte where they lived for their 53 year marriage. He worked at Cohagen Transfer upon moving to North Platte, and later for Pepsi-Cola, Sidles, and for the State of Nebraska Department of Roads as maintenance foreman for more than thirty years.

He was a member of the First Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Valda, son William, "Bill," his parents, brothers Gerald (Kai), Lyle, Wayne, Matilda, Marion, John, Ernest, and a great-grandson Cole Frederick.

Survivors include his daughter, Betty and husband, Larry Frederick of Dickens, a sister Opal and husband, Lloyd Barta of Lexington, a brother, David of Marshalltown Iowa; two grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Services were Monday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte.

Carpenter Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
