Joseph Edward Peterson

ARAPAHOE -- Joseph Edward Peterson, 69, died Wednesday (April 18, 2007) at Phelps Memorial Hospital in Holdrege.

He was born Aug. 7, 1937, at Norton, Kan., to Irenius Leroy "Pete" and Helen (Agnas) Peterson. He attended school in Norton and entered Army after school.

He married Mary Louise Hall on Oct. 2, 1964, in Marshall, Texas. He served in the Army until he retired in 1976. He then moved to Norton and worked for Tamko Manufacturing in Phillipsburg, Kan., and Norton Coop for a number of years.

He went back to school from 1980 through 1981, attending Colby Community College and received his LPN degree. He went on to Fort Hayes State University and Barton County Community College to receive his ADN in Nursing. He worked for a number of years in Wichita, Kan., and was Director of Nursing in Clayton, N.M.

He retired due to health reasons and move back to Norton and worked at Valley Hope in Norton as support staff and assisted in counseling.

He was an active in the Knights of Columbus in Norton and was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church of Norton.

He is preceded in death by his parents and son, George J. Hall.

Survivors include his son, Chad and wife, Jessica Peterson of Denver, Colo.; daughters, Dorothy Peterson of Kearney, Mary and husband, Toby tenBensel of Arapahoe, Carol and husband, Doug Brown of Beaver City and Shelley and husband, David Harschbarger of Norton, Kan.; brothers, Ken and wife, Kay Peterson of Cypress, Calif., Mike and wife, Carol Peterson of Grand Prairie, Texas, Larry and wife, Jeanie Peterson of Olathe, Kan., and Charles Peterson of Rolland Park, Kan., Maurice and wife, Jennifer Peterson of Long Beach, Calif., and Donald and wife, Karen Peterson of Norton, Kan.; sisters, Alice and husband, Don Goscha of Norton, Kan., Patricia and husband Max Becker of Duncanville, Texas, Nancy and husband, Kennis McClelland of Beaver City and Teresa and husband, Ron Albers of Colwich, Kan.; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday, 2 p.m., at St. Germanus Catholic Church in Arapahoe, with the Rev. Robert Barnhill officiating. Interment will be in the Norton Cemetery, with military rites given by Fort Riley Honor Detail from Fort Riley, Kan.

Visitation will be Saturday from 9 a.m.-8 .p.m., Sunday from 1 p.m.-5 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe and prior to services on Monday at the church. Rosery will be Sunday at 7 p.m., at the church.
