LEXINGTON -- John V. Metzger, 58, died suddenly Tuesday (March 20, 2007) at Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.

He was born Jan. 11, 1949, at Holdrege to Bruce and Cleora (Secrest) Metzger. He graduated from Alma High School with the class of 1967, and Kearney State College with a degree in Mathematics in 1971.

He married Katherine Pollmann on Aug. l6, 1970, at Culbertson. He taught for one year at Beaver City. After he stopped teaching he worked in a hardware store and sold State Farm Insurance.

They moved to Lexington in February of 1976. He worked for Hennek and Company and then for Graham-Edwards Furniture until it closed. He then worked for Top Hat Furniture in Kearney and Boerkircher's Furniture in Cozad. He later opened his own shop "The Woodworks".

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Steven and one uncle, Bob.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Metzger of Lexington; parents, Bruce and Cleora Metzger of Alma; sons, Tim Metzger of Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and Curt Metzger of Lexington; brother, Rodney Metzger of Alma; sister, Pam Metzger of Alma; two nieces; and two great-nieces.

Funeral services will be Monday, 10:30 a.m., at Calvary Assembly of God Church in Lexington with the Rev. Joe Masten officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

Memorials are suggested to the Lexington Fire Department or donor's choice.
