Neal Roderick Fidler of McCook died Monday (Feb. 12, 2007), at the Cambridge Hospital.  He was 79 years old.

 Neal was born on Dec. 14, 1927, at McCook to Myrl L. and Louise T. (Koitsch) Fidler.  He graduated from McCook High School in 1945.

 On June 13, 1945, he entered the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. He was stationed in the Philippine Islands. Neal was honorably discharged on Aug. 20, 1946.  On Sept. 24, 1952, he was recalled into the Reserves and served during the Korean War.  He was stationed on the reconstructed USS Yorktown. He was honorably discharged on March 18, 1953.

 Neal married Bettie Clasby at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook on June 6, 1948.  To this union three children were born.  They made their home in McCook where Neal was employed as a conductor for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad.

 Neal was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Lutheran Laymen's League, Veteran's of Foreign Wars and American Legion.  Neal was known throughout the area for his life-like carvings of birds, ducks and fish.  His favorite times were those spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Myrl and Louise Fidler; son-in-law, Bradley King; sister, Vivian Pasquan; brothers, CV "Babe" Fidler, Marion Fidler, and Harold Fidler.

 Survivors include his wife, Bettie of 58 years; son, Dr. Jeff L. and wife, Dr. Mary Fidler of Rochester, Minn.; two daughters, Vicki King of Grand Island and Cathy and husband, Tom Broz of McCook; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Visitation will be today and Thursday from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.  Friends may send condolences to www.carpenterbreland.com.

Funeral services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Brad Rick and Pastor Randy Wahl officiating.  Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
