ATWOOD -- Hilda Mariene Chessmore, 69, died Sunday (Sept. 10, 2006) at her home in Atwood.

She was born June 14, 1937, in Platteville, Colo., to Chester and Grace (Larson) Withington. She grew up in Atwood and attended Herndon and Atwood Schools.

On Feb. 14, 1954, she married Robert C. Brown in Atwood. They later divorced. On June 1, 1957, she married Royal Raymond Chessmore in McCook.

She worked on the family farm and owned her own business, Hilda's Gift Shoppe. She also worked as a Nurse's Aide and Activity Director at the Good Samaritan and Atwood Country Club. She also worked with her son Raymond on his landscaping crew.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Royal; three brothers, Harlan, Melvin, and Harold; two sister-in-laws, Julie Withington and Clarice Ann Chessmore; one brother-in-law, Aubrey Chessmore; special sister, Joyce Parker; and four grandchildren, Jacqueline, Randy, Angela and Christopher.

Survivors include her five sons, Robert Brown and wife, Katy of Indiana, Raymond and wife, Vickie, Steve and wife, Sandra, Corky and wife, Mary, and Stan and wife, Keri all of Atwood; three daughters, Marlena Vrbas and husband, Ron of Colby, Kan., Becky Peck and husband, Calvin, Stephanie Pelkey and husband Mel all of Atwood; four brothers, Marvin and wife, Beverly of Atwood, Verlan and wife, Rhonda of Belle, Mo., Lavern of Littleville, Ala., and Irv and wife, Bonnie of Ray, Colo.; three sisters, Hazel of Scott City, Kan., Lila Holsman and husband, Gen of Oberlin; and Ivina Vandegriffe and husband, John of Owensville, Mo.; four sister-in-laws, Irene Withington of Atwood, Karen Withington of Maryville, Mo., Mary Eileen Lauer and husband, Dave of Kansas City, Mo., and Katherine Elaine Keplinger and husband, Edward of Denver, Colo.; special sisters, Jackie Urban and Robert Most; 18 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one-step-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services are Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Atwood, with the Rev. Christine Edwards officiating. Graveside services and interment will follow in the Atwood Fairview Cemetery.

Memorials may be given in her name and will be designated later.

Visitation is today until 8 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Atwood and from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Thursday.
