ARVADA, Colo. -- Virle B. Burd died at his home in Arvada, Colo., on Sept. 6, 2006. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Virle was born July 23, 1922, in Trenton, Neb., to his parents, Glen and Myra Chipman Burd.

He was a graduate of Trenton High School in 1940. He enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and attended Naval Flight Training Program. He became a pilot of TBM's (torpedo bombers).

On June 16, 1946, he married Edith Brown.

He worked in partnership with his Uncle Harry B. Chipman as the manager of the Chipman Chevrolet Agency for nine years. They built the Soo-Paw Motel in Trenton in 1955 and Virle and Edith managed this until its sale in 1958. Virle then became a real estate broker and in 1960 he and his family moved to Arvada, Colo., which has been his home until his death.

Virle is survived by his wife, Edith, sons Kenneth Burd and wife, Stephanie of Hong Kong, China, Richard Burd and his wife, Chris of Broomfield, Colo., and his daughter, Judi Mitchell of Arvada. He has 10 grandchildren: Kevin Burd, Dana Burd and his wife, Amy, Brooke Musselman and her husband, Seth, Garrett Mitchell, Gage Mitchell, Erin Burd, Megan Burd, Tyler Burd, Brienne Burd, Lacie Mitchell, plus numerous "adopted grandchildren." On the Burd side of the family he is survived by brother Duane Burd and his wife, Rachael of Las Vegas, nephew Scott Burd and his wife, Bernice of Yakima, Wash., and niece Karen Orvold of Tacoma, Wash. On the Brown side he is survived by one brother-in-law, Bill Brown and his wife, Peggy and numerous nieces and nephews. He also is survived by many friends.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made in the name of Virle B. Burd to the Hospice of Metro Denver, the American Cancer Society, or any charity of your choice.

He was a loving and much loved husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed tremendously.
