COLBY, Kan. -- Margaret Muzelle Hanchett Edwards, died Saturday (July 22, 2006) at the Sherman County Good Samaritan Center in Goodland, Kan.

She was born Nov. 19, 1916, at the family farm southwest of Oberlin to Harry Roberts and Lorena (Myers) Hanchett. She graduated from Colby high School and attended Fort Hays State University and Kansas University. She taught at one-room schools in both Thomas and Rawlins Counties before teaching in the Gem, Kinsley and Garden City school systems.

On Jan. 15, 1944, she married Arlo Vinton Edwards. After Arlo returned from serving with the U.S. Army in Europe, they farmed, ranched and raised registered Appaloosa horses in Rawlins County. She participated in many community clubs, organizations and activities. As an active member of the Atwood Methodist church, she took part in many church activities, was president of the Atwood Methodist Women and was recognized for distinguished leadership in that organization. A gifted musician, she sang, played and entertained on numerous occasions. Friends remember her flair for fine entertaining and her appreciation for beautiful objects. She and Arlo retired and moved to Colby in 1977.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her brother, Merlin Hanchett; and her husband Arlo.

Services will be at the Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Wesleyan Church in Colby. Burial will be in Atwood Fairview Cemetery.

Visitation will be today at Brantley Funeral Home from 1-9 p.m. and 9 a.m.- 9 p.m. on Tuesday and on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the Sherman County Good Samaritan Center.
