NORTON, Kan. -- Sophia A. Otter, 98, died Tuesday (Nov. 8, 2005) at the Norton County Hospital in Norton, Kan.

She was born Nov. 26, 1906, in Graham County, Kan., to Gerhardt Bruggeman and Mary Dittinger. She went to school in New Almelo, Kan.

She married Albert Otter on Aug. 24, 1927, in New Almelo. The couple farmed west of New Almelo. She was a homemaker and school cook. She moved to New Almelo in 1997 and to Norton in 2003.

She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Ann's Society and the County Extension Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerhardt and Mary Bruggeman; husband, Albert Otter; sons, Gerard and Roger Otter; daughter, Ursula Otter; brothers, Ambrose and Leo Bruggeman; and sisters, Helena B. Otter, Agnes Otter, Sister Ligouri, Mary M. Linden, Antionette Bruggeman and Louise Nible.

Survivors include sons, Conrad and wife, Charlotte Otter of McPherson, Kan., Alfred and wife, Betty Otter of New Almelo, Francis and wife, Phyliss Otter of Lenora, Kan., Gilbert and wife, Carol Otter of Norton and Harold Otter of Flagstaff, Ariz.; daughters, Mary and husband, Mike Schamberger of Hoxie and Janice and husband, Steve Richards of Sania Park, N.M.; daughter-in-law, Julia Otter of Oberlin; brothers, the Rev. Gerald Bruggeman of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Alfred Bruggeman of Phillipsburg, Kan.; sisters, Elizabeth Brinkler, Glen Elder and Regina Riedel of Morland, Kan.; 38 grandchildren; 98 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Services will be Monday, 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Almelo with the Rev. Vincent Thu Laing and Deacon Stan Chapin officiating. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Vigil service will be Sunday, 7 p.m., at St. Joseph Parish Hall in New Almelo. Visitation will be Sunday, 5-8 p.m., and Monday, 8 a.m., at St. Joseph Parish Hall.

Memorials are being accepted in her name at St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Joseph Cemetery Fund.
