Esther Troxell, 85, died Saturday (Oct. 8, 2005) at Community Hospital of McCook.

She was born March 4, 1920, at Fort Collins, Colo., the daughter of Friedrich and Maria Elisabeth (Lockman) Schmidt. She grew up at Fort Collins, where she graduated from Fort Collins High School in 1938.

On Feb. 10, 1940, Esther married Jack D. Troxell of McCook. They traveled with the railroad in Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa and Illinois before returning once again to McCook in 1955.

She was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church for over 50 years and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Burlington Veterans.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack on May 22, 1999, and by an infant son, Jack Jr. in 1945. Her brothers, Fred, John, George and Alex Schmidt and one sister, Mary Hettinger are also deceased.

Esther is survived by one daughter, Kitty S. Young; one granddaughter, Stacey Lea Young Mayfield and husband, Danny of Dallas, Texas; one great-grandson, Daniel Lee Mayfield III; three sisters, Elsie Burkhardt of Cheyenne, Wyo., Effie Moe of Lakewood, Calif., and Rachel Waters of Long Beach, Calif.; and numerous relatives and friends.

Services will be Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005, 2 p.m., at the Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook with the Rev. Dr. Jeffery Thurman officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.

A reception and open house following the committal will take place at her home, 1705 W. Third, in McCook. Memorials may be given in her name and friends may call at Herrmann Funeral Home in McCook.
