CAMBRIDGE -- Elma F. Shifflet, 89, died Saturday (July 23, 2005), at Cambridge Memorial Hospital in Cambridge.

She was born Jan. 13, 1916, north of Holbrook, to Charles and Cecil Lathorp. She attended school in Cambridge and was stricken with polio in her sophomore year.

On March 31, 1934, she married Raymond Shifflet at Norton, Kan. They moved to Omaha where he worked at the airplane plant. They lived in Buffalo, N.Y. in 1939, returning to Omaha in 1940. In 1946, they moved to Cambridge where they farmed north of Cambridge in Frontier County. They retired from farming and moved to Cambridge in 1979.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond in March 1980; and two sisters, Merna Fiddler and Bernice Halloran.

Survivors include two sons, Burnell and wife, Michelle and Kim and wife, Kris, all of Cambridge; six grandsons; and two great-granddaughters.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge with the Rev. David Rowe officiating. Interment will be at the Fairview Cemetery in Cambridge.
