KEARNEY -- Lois M. Dawson, 83, died Monday (March 14, 2005) at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

She was born Feb. 26, 1922, to Joseph and Anna (Haffey) Hays northwest of Oxford. She attended Hardscrabble School for eight years and then graduated from Oxford High School with the Class of 1939. After graduation, she taught school at District 7 in rural Gosper County.

In 1941, she married Lowell R. Dawson at St. Germanus Catholic Church in Arapahoe. They farmed in Gosper County for many years. They moved to Arapahoe in 1984. He husband died Jan. 16, 1992. In October of that year, she moved to Kearney.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Arapahoe.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lowell; three sisters, Katherine Bartruff, Bernice Dawson and infant sister, Elsie Marie Hays; one brother, James Hays; and great-grandson, Alex M. Koller.

Survivors include two sons, Richard and wife, Barb Dawson of Johnson Lake and Roy and wife, Kathryn Dawson of Edison; two daughters, Kay and husband, Wayne Farr of Johnson Lake and Karen and husband, Stan Johnson of Omaha; two brothers, Joe and wife, Jean Hays of Edison and Bill and wife, JoAnn Hays of Edison; three sisters, Mic and husband, Vaughn Dawson of Arapahoe, Suz Walker of Kearney and Tess Moor of Exeter; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services are Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at First United Methodist Church in Arapahoe with the Rev. Hyeongdong Baek officiating. Interment will be in Arapahoe Cemetery.

Visitation is today until 8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe and prior to services Thursday at the church.
