HOLDREGE -- Mable A. Johnson, 78, died Sunday (Jan. 30, 2005) at her home in Holdrege.

She was born Aug. 9, 1926, south of Oil Center, Okla., to Neal and Addie Mae (Cook) MacDonald. She attended Vanoss High School in Oklahoma, graduating in 1945.

She moved to California, and then to Minden where she was employed by Warp Publishing.

On Oct. 28, 1948, she married Lester A. Johnson. They made their home on a farm northwest of Funk before moving to Holdrege in 1950.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Brenda Lee; and three sisters, Letha Kilgore, Mary Haffner and Jewel Hazenberg.

Survivors include her husband, Lester of Holdrege; daughter, Gail and husband, Mike Sughroue of Holdrege; son, Mike and wife, Jeannette Johnson, also of Holdrege; two sisters, Dorothy Brown of Pink, Okla., and Betty Bryant of Stratford, Okla.; one brother, John and wife, Bonnie MacDonald of Spencer, Okla.; one sister-in-law, Marian Johnson of Holdrege; seven grandchildren; and extended family in Southwest Nebraska.

Services will be Thursday, 2 p.m., at the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege with the Rev. Dr. Dan Mitchell and pastor Gary Jones officiating. Interment will be at Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.

Visitation is Wednesday, 1-9 p.m., at Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege. Family will receive callers from 7:30-8:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established.
