HILL CITY, Kan. -- Wilfred J. Marx, 89, of New Almelo, Kan., died Monday (April 5, 2004) at Dawson Place Nursing Home in Hill City, Kan.

He was born April 28, 1914, to Joe and Thresia Marx in Nashville, Kan. She was raised in Densmore, Kan., and attended schools there. He served in the Army during World War II.

On April 9, 1947, he married Agnes A. Vahling. He farmed north of Studley in Sheridan County, Kan.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Almelo and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and half sister.

Survivors include his wife, Agnes of Morland; two sons, Robert and wife, Doris Marx of Clayton, Kan., and Kenny Marx of Hill City, Kan.; two daughters, Doris Shane of Salina and Rita and husband, Dennis Orborny of Salina; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way.

Services are Thursday, 10 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Almelo with the Rev. Vincent Thu Laing and Deacon Stan Chapin officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation is Wednesday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin, 5-8 p.m., at the parish center in New Almelo and Thursday, 8 a.m., until service time at the parish center.

Memorials may be given in his name to the church.
