James A. 'Mac' McCormick

GRANT -- James A. "Mac" McCormick, 88, died Sunday (Feb. 15, 2004) at Perkins County Community Hospital in Grant.

He was born Sept. 11, 1915, to Arthur and Flora Bell (Johnston) McCormick in Palisade. He grew up in Palisade and went to school there.

On Dec. 26, 1934, he married Lucile Crowell in Wauneta. The couple lived in Palisade where he worked as a mechanic. The family moved to Colorado in 1945. They returned to Palisade in 1950. In 1957, the family moved to Grant, where he was associated with the Grant Co-op. He worked in the station and later worked in the grain and fertilizer department. After he retired, the couple traveled and spent nine winters in Yuma, Ariz. His wife preceded him in death in October 2001.

He was a member of the Grant United Methodist Church, the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs and he was an active participant in the Alzheimer's Support Group of North Platte.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lucile; four brothers, Earl, Orle, Charles and Vern; and two sons, LeRoy and infant, Gary.

Survivors include three daughters, Arlene and husband, Art Cornelius of Hill City, S.D., Caren and husband, Bob Farber of Springfield, Ore., and Nancy Jean and husband, Boyd Miller of Culbertson; one son, Ronald and wife, Dorothy McCormick of Wheatland, Wyo.; one sister, Geraldine Smith of Palisade; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Services are Thursday, 1:30 p.m., at the Grant United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sally Ruggia-Haden officiating. Interment is in Grant Cemetery.
