Opal Belle Mousel

CAMBRIDGE -- Opal Belle Mousel, 92, died Thursday (Dec. 18, 2003) at Cambridge Manor in Cambridge.

She was born Nov. 25, 1911, in Rankin, Okla., to Arthur and Harriet Gaines. She attended school in Cheyenne and Blackwell, Okla. She moved to Geneva with her family. She graduated from Geneva High School and later attended Peru State Teacher's College. She taught school in Rising City and McCook.

On April 3, 1942, she married George A. Mousel. The couple made their home on the Mousel Hereford Ranch and raised purebred Hereford cattle. The ranch was located on the Medicine Creek north of Cambridge. The couple retired from the ranch and built a home in Cambridge. The couple lived in the home until 1998, when health caused them to move to the Cambridge Manor.

She was a member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, she was a 50 year member of the 20th Century Club and a member of the Tri Valley Health Systems Hospital Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother and nieces and nephews.

Survivors include her husband, George of Cambridge; a sister-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial is Monday, 10:30 a.m., at St. John the Baptist Church in Cambridge. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Cambridge.

The rosary will be recited Sunday, 7:30 p.m., at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary.

Memorials may be left in her name.
