Orpha Louise Maris

WAUNETA -- Orpha Louise Maris, 72, died Tuesday (Dec. 16, 2003) at her home in Wauneta.

She was born July 1, 1931, on a farm north of Haigler to Edward W. and Pauline L. (Schwenk) Buffington. She attended grade school and high school in Haigler.

On March 15, 1950, she married Dale LaVerne Maris at Eden Missionary Church south of Wauneta. The couple made their home near the Eden community in rural Hitchcock County, where they farmed until her husbands death in 1994. She then moved to Wauntea.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Pauline; and husband, Dale.

Survivors include her father, Ed Buffington of Wauneta; three sons, Vern Maris of Wauntea, Leon Maris and wife, Dawn of Paullina, Iowa and Devon Maris of McCook; and eight grandchildren.

Services are Friday, 10 a.m. (MST), at Hamlet Union Church in Hamlet with the Rev. Kevin Fink officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Wauneta.

Friends may sign the register today, 2-6 p.m. (MST), at Liewer Funeral Home in Wauneta. The casket will remain closed.

A memorial has been established to Nat and Donna Brown, missionaries in Ecuador, South America.
