John E. Gallatin

John E. Gallatin, 97, died Wednesday (Oct. 22, 2003) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

He was born July 24, 1906, to Eugene and Wilametta (Eckhard) Gallatin in Bartley. He graduated from Bartley High School in 1925.

On July 23, 1927, he married Helen Ann Hoffstrand in Bartley. John was a farmer in Red Willow County all his life. Helen preceded him in death on Feb. 23, 1961.

On Nov. 27, 1971, he married Ina Pearl McDonald in North Platte. The couple made their home in McCook. She preceded him in death Nov. 27, 1986.

He was a member of the McCook Masonic Lodge No. 135, Master of Boaz Lodge-Danbury, the York Rite Bodies of McCook, Council and Commandery of McCook, Tehama Temple Shrine of Hastings and Easter Star Eureka Chapter No. 86 of McCook. He was also a member of the McCook Elks Lodge, the Eagles and Moose Lodge. In 1980, his family was given the Honor Family Award during Heritage Days.

He was preceded in death by his parents: both wives, Helen and Ina; two brothers, Dent and Jay Gallatin; four sisters, Madge McNeely, Okle Gallatin, Grace Bebout and infant sister, Frances.

Survivors include his son, Dwight Gallatin and wife, Susanna of Danbury; three daughters, Jacqueline and Sandra Gallatin of McCook and Bonnell and husband, Waldo Carfield of Aurora, Colo.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Services are Friday, 2 p.m., at Carpenter Breland Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Darwin Scott officiating. The Masonic Temple will provide the rites. Interment is in Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation is today until 8 p.m.

Memorials may be given to the United Way.
