Marie I. (Axtell) Grafton

DANBURY -- Marie I. (Axtell) Grafton, 90, died Friday (Sept. 7, 2001) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

She was born Jan. 28, 1911, in Red Willow County to Frank and Elizabeth (Halsey) Thomas. She grew up on the family farm west of Lebanon where she graduated from rural school.

On Nov. 2, 1929, she married Floyd Axtell at McCook. They spent their married lived farming in the Danbury and Lebanon communities. They moved to Danbury in 1973. He preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 1981 . On Nov. 27, 1982, she married Odell Grafton at Danbury. He preceded her in death on Nov. 16, 1992.

She was a member of the Danbury Presbyterian Church, the K.T. Card Club, the Red Willow Extension Club and the Rebecca Lodge.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands, Floyd Axtell and Odell Grafton; and two infant daughters, Marietta Jean and Lois LeAnn.

Survivors include two sons, Eugene Axtell and wife, Shirley of Danbury, and Ronald Axtell and wife, Debra of North Platte; one step-son, Merwin Grafton and wife, Virginia of Lebanon; two step-daughters, Angie Wilson and husband, Roger of Danbury, and Marilyn Goodenberger and husband, Phil of Stratton; one brother, Delmer Thomas and wife, Faye of McCook; one sister, Esther Redtfeldt of Emmett, Idaho; five grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at the Herrmann Memorial Chapel in McCook with Johnny Walker officiating. Interment will be at the Danbury and Marion Cemetery at Danbury.

Memorials may be given in her name and friends may call at Herrmann Funeral Home in McCook.
