Lilyan Rachel Melton

Lilyan Rachel Melton, 82, died Monday (Oct. 1, 2001) at St. Elizabeth's Regional Medical Center in Lincoln.

She was born May 1, 1919, at Effingham, Kan., to Edith Christie Vine. She attended school in Kansas. As a teen, she traveled through Colorado, Kansas and Nebraska singing and playing guitar for church services. She worked for the telephone company, Peter's Dairy Creame, and for the Chief Motel as a desk clerk, from which she retired.

On Sept. 29, 1942, she married Roy A. Melton at Cambridge. In 1953 they moved to McCook where she has lived for the last 51 years.

She was preceded in death by her mother; and her son, John in 1981.

Survivors include her husband, Roy of McCook; two daughters, Marilyn Mues and husband, Steven of Rochester, Minn., and Nelda Waxman and husband, Frank of Edmond, Okla.; two brothers-in-law, James and wife, Carolyn of McCook, and Vayle Bunker and wife, Juanita of Culbertson; and three grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at Carpenter-Breland Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Clark Bates officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.

Visitation is until 8 p.m. tonight, and until 1 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials may be given in her name.
