CULBERTSON -- Rose Cook, 99, died Thursday (October 18, 2001) at Hillcrest Nursing Home.

She was born July 24, 1902, to Henry and Katherine (Gies) Butherus at Trenton. She attended school at Benkleman and Bartley, graduating from Bartley High School in 1921. She received her Teachers Training Certificate and taught rural school in Bartley, District 69 and District 2 north of Culbertson. She lived most of her life in this area.

On June 26, 1923, she married Carl C. Cook in McCook. They farmed northwest of Culbertson until 1975 when they moved to Culbertson. She moved into Hillcrest in December of 1999.

She was a Sunday School teacher for 30 years, and a home Bible Study teacher. She was a charter member of the Help A Lot Club, the Culbertson Garden Club, American Legion Auxiliary and attended the Bethel Missionary Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl in 1996; five sisters, Katie Mosier, Elsie Davis, Marie Vincent, Louise Catlett and Lillian Herman; and one brother, Raymond Butherus.

Survivors include two sons, Eugene Cook and wife, Lee of LaJolla, Calif., and Glenn Cook and wife, Anita of Big Sandy, Mont.; one daughter, Bonita Weber and husband, Fred of Culbertson; one sister, Frieda Riemer of Hale, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Rachel Rousselle and husband, Robert of Huntington Beach, Calif.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be Monday, 2 p.m., at the Bethel Missionary Church in Culbertson with the Rev. Mark Hunter officiating. Interment will be at the Culbertson Cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and Sunday, 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook. Memorials may be given in her name.
