Rosella (McKillip) Wicke

ATWOOD -- Rosella (McKillip) Wicke, 84, died Friday (Nov. 30, 2001) at the Rawlins County Health Center in Atwood.

She was born Nov. 9, 1917, at the family farm house in Hayes County to Arch and Mamie (Marquissie) McKillip. She was baptized as an infant at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in rural Hayes County. She graduated from Hayes County High School in 1934 with a normal training certificate.

On Dec. 28, 1938, she married Eric H. Wicke at Indianola. They made their home at his birthplace where they lived and farmed until 1953 when they moved to Atwood.

She was a former member of the St. Mary's Assumption Catholic Church at Herndon, Kan., a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Christian Mother's Altar Society in Atwood, a charter member of the Fun and Facts Extension Unit, Zeta Chi, and was an active leader in Girl Scouts.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eric in 1999; one son, Philip in 1952; three brothers, Fay, James and Arden; and one sister, Virginia Felker.

Survivors include one son, Archie and wife, Patricia of Goodland, Kan.; three daughters, Rita Koehn and husband, Gary of Seattle, Wash., Linda Elder and husband, Grady of LaCygne, Kan., and Debra Johnson and husband, Dave of Garden City, Kan.; two sisters, Jane Pearson of Stratton, and Lucille Fugate of Seattle; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial services were today at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atwood with the Rev. Damian Richards officiating. Interment was at the St. Mary's Cemetery in Herndon.

Memorials may be given in her name to the Obert Senior Center or to the Atwood Good Samaritan Center.

Williams Funeral Home of Atwood was in charge of the arrangements.
