Walter E. 'Pete' Westerbeck

ARAPAHOE -- Walter E. "Pete" Westerbeck, 89, died Tuesday (Dec. 11, 2001) at his home in Arapahoe. He was born June 23, 1912, at Arapahoe to William H. and Louise (Wendland) Westerbeck. He was raised in Arapahoe and graduated with the class of 1932 from Arapahoe High School. After graduation he worked for a road construction crew in Nebraska, Kansas, and Colorado.

On May 7, 1938, he married Elsie Elizabeth Lollman at Chadron. In 1953, they returned to Arapahoe where he worked with his brother-in-law Lawrence "Buck" Hoyle as a blacksmith. In the early 1960s he went to work for Adams Construction where he remained until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elsie on July 26, 1971; five brothers George, Albert, Ray, John, and Harold Westerbeck, and three sisters, Mable Wyrick, Clara Westerbeck, Margaret Renie.

Survivors include one son, Marlow and wife, Mary of Wellsville, Kan.; two sisters, Lillie Frost of Lincoln, and Elda Conckle and husband, Phillip of Glendale, Calif.; one brother-in-law, Harlan Wyrick of McCook; and two grandsons.

Services will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe with the Rev. Carl Lilienkamp officiating. Interment will be at the Arapahoe Cemetery in Arapahoe.

Visitation is tonight until 8 p.m. at Williamson-Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe and Saturday prior to the services at the church.
