COLBY, Kan. -- Wilfred J. Miller, 81, died Saturday (Oct. 12, 2002) at his home in Colby.

He was born Nov. 24, 1920, to Edward J. and Christina B. (Zimmerman) Miller in Sheridan County, Kan. He was raised on a farm in the Dresden area and graduated from Leoville High School at Leoville, Kan., in 1939.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

On May 27, 1950, he married Betty J. McCafferty in Great Falls, Mont. The couple resided on a farm in the Dresden community before moving to Colby this year. He was a farmer and stockman.

He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church of Leoville, Knights of Columbus of Leoville, Oberlin American Legion Post No. 70, and the Grinnell Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenneth Miller and Joseph Miller; and two sisters, Rita Kinser and Mary D. Miller.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Miller of Colby; two sons, Greg Miller and wife, Marie, and Larry Miller and wife, Mary all of Dresden; two daughters, Kathy and husband, Francis Britton of Colby, and Pat Van Horn of Canon City, Colo.; his mother-in-law, Lourena McCafferty; one brother, Ed Miller and wife, JoAnn of Colby; three sisters, Lorraine and husband, Howard Lyells of Phoenix, Ariz., Geraldine and husband, Don Neff of Oberlin and Janice Bruggemier of Chicago, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at the Immaculate Conception Church in Leoville with the Rev. Mathew Vazhappily, the Rev. Galen Long and the Rev. Stan Chapin officiating. Interment will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery at Leoville.

A vigil service will be Tuesday, 7:30 p.m., at the Immaculate Conception Church in Leoville.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the funeral home in Selden and from 6-8 p.m. at the church in Leoville.

Memorials may be given in his name.
