Clara L. Hoppe

Clara L. Hoppe, 95, died Monday (Jan. 6, 2003) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

She was born April 21, 1907, in Frontier County, to Elmer and Nancy Lee (Campbell) Shepherd. She grew up in Frontier County and graduated from high school in Kimball. She also graduated from Chadron State College with a degree in education. She began teaching school in Wyoming and later at Maywood.

In June 1936, she married Samuel Edmiston and he preceded her in death.

In August 1950, she married Hubert Hoppe at Reno, Nev., and they made their home in California. She returned to McCook in 1983, where she has spent the remainder of her life.

She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Samuel and Hubert; an infant daughter, Joan Marie Edmiston; four brothers, Lee Shepherd, Wayne Shepherd, Clinton Shepherd and Richard Shepherd; one sister, Blanche Hubbard; and one grandson.

Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Edmiston of Medical Lake, Wash.; sisters, Maxine Poore of McCook and Jean and husband, Dwight Woodruff of Loveland, Colo.; two sisters-in-law, Alice Shepherd of Fort Collins, Colo., and Della Shepherd of Skiatook, Okla; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at the Herrmann Memorial Chapel in McCook with the Rev. Dr. Jeffery Thurman officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery at McCook.

Memorials may be given in her name and friends may call at the funeral home.
