Robert 'Bob' D. Hickert

BRIGHTON, Colo. -- Robert "Bob" D. Hickert, 61, died Thursday (Jan. 30, 2003) at his home in Brighton, Colo., after a short illness.

He was born Jan. 5, 1942, at the family farm in Decatur County, to Albert and Amanda (Gilleece) Hickert. He attended New Almelo Grade School and Jennings High School.

As a young man, he worked on a harvesting crew which followed the harvest from Texas to Montana. He also worked for the Rock Island Railroad. He was employed by Thomas Plating Company in Denver for a time, then moved to Minneapolis, Minn., where he was employed by Hobart Plating Company. He later moved to Brighton, where he was employed by Dales Wild Meat Company until his death.

He was a member of the U.S. National Guard, St. Augustine's Catholic Church, Brighton Elks Club Lodge No. 1586, and the New Almelo Knights of Columbus Council No. 3124.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jim and Bill; a sister, Carolyn; and a brother-in-law, Bud Kotschwar.

Survivors include seven sisters, Cecilia Kotschwar of McCook, Hilaria and husband, Joy Huff of Goodland, Kan., Wilma and husband, Bernard Farrell of Mesa, Ariz., Iolene and husband, Francis Levendofsky of Belleville, Kan., Donna and husband, Delbert Roth of Marion, Iowa, Bertilla and husband, Tom Conroy of McCook and Marilyn and husband, Marion Otter of New Almelo, Kan.; sister-in-law, Claudine Hickert of McCook; and one brother, Donald Hickert of McCook.

A Memorial Mass will be said Thursday in Brighton.

A Mass of Resurrection at New Almelo, Kan., is pending.
