Wanitta R. 'Betty' Williams

Wanitta R. Williams, 79, died Thursday (Feb. 20, 2003) at her home in McCook.

She was born May 12, 1923, to Charles William and Hazell (Rosefield) Cheever at North Platte. She attended school at North Platte.

On March 14, 1942, she married William B. Williams in Lexington. She has lived in McCook since 1990.

She attended the McCook Senior Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband William on March 31, 1990; a brother Charles E. Cheever; and a half-brother, Lavern Cheever.

Survivors include four daughters, Ruby and husband, Jake Friend of Westminster, Colo., Millie and husband, Dale Hovey, of North Platte, Edith Wheeler of North Platte and Mary S. Shadley of McCook; one sister, Maxine Depperschmidt of Kingsley, Kan.; half-sisters, Velma Carlson, Viola "JoAnn" and husband, Bob Forrey, Virginia and husband, Ralph Fischer, Billy and husband, Dale Smith, all of North Platte, and Joyce Tyan of Omaha; half-brothers, Thomas Cheever and wife, Darlene, of Missouri, Albert Cheever and wife, Betty, of Sterling, Colo., and Glen Cheever and wife, Alice of North Platte; 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; and special friend, Tracy Hixon.

Memorial services will be Friday, 1:30 p.m., at Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell.

The body was cremated. There will be no visitation. Friends and family may sign her book at the funeral home Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
