CURTIS -- Delbert L. Conner, 88, died Monday (May 12, 2003) at Sunset Haven Nursing Home in Curtis.

He was born May 12, 1915, at Quick, to Lewis George and Genevive Tracey Conner. He graduated from the Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis in 1933.

After graduation, he farmed on his family farm until entering the U.S. Army on May 1, 1942. He served in the military until Dec. 24, 1945.

On Oct. 24, 1948, he married Camilla Robertson at Curtis. They farmed southwest of Maywood. After his retirement from the farm, he worked at the Agricultural Soil Conservation Service Office in Curtis for 30 years measuring acreages and bins.

He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 6930 of Curtis and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 272 of Maywood.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Camilla on Jan. 12, 2001; and one brother, George B. Conner.

Survivors include two sons, Dennis Conner and wife, Lyn of Arvada, Colo., and David Conner and wife, Becky of Winterset, Iowa; one sister, Genevive Quick of Lincoln; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday, 10 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Curtis with the Rev. Rick Sykes officiating. Burial will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell with military rites at graveside by the American Legion Post No. 6930 of Curtis.

Visitation is Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Blase-Wetzel Funeral Home in Curtis.

A memorial has been established in his name.
