Clarence 'Bud' Rogers

HOLBROOK -- Clarence "Bud" Rogers, 78, formerly of the McCook area, died Saturday (May 31, 2003) at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

He was born Jan. 5, 1925, at McCook, to Clarence Henry and Sylvia (Mitchem) Rogers. He grew up in the McCook area.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

In 1944, he married Madeline Rogers.

In 1950, he married Charlotte Wilcox. They lived in Wyoming, Denver, Colo., and McCook. In 1963, they opened Bud's Conoco on Norris Avenue in McCook. Later they moved to Indianola where he operated a greenhouse, worked at Indianola Oil for a couple of years and became police chief in Indianola in 1978.

On Aug. 9, 1984, he married Eleanor Guthrie Carlson, at which time he moved to her farm northwest of Holbrook. They operated in a greenhouse in Arapahoe for 10 years. He later retired.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Gloria Rogers and Marilyn Bennet.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor of Holbrook; seven sons, Billie Rogers of Denver, Colo., Ronnie Rogers of Wisconsin, Larry Rogers and wife, Diane of Sidney, Iowa, Bill Rogers and wife, Deborah of Bartley, Ronnie Rogers and wife, Jeannie, Mark Rogers and wife, Stephanie and Jon Rogers all of McCook; four daughters, Sharon Lang of Wichita, Kan., Bonnie and husband, Gregory Schumaker of Bartley, Gloria and husband, Steve Richman of Raymond, and June and husband, Robert Hall of Holbrook; four step-sons, Michael Carlson and wife, Shelly and Timothy Carlson and wife, Judy of Arapahoe, and Bradley Carlson and Jeffrey Carlson and wife, Chanda of Holbrook; two brothers, Ed and wife, Heidi Rogers of Tennessee and Monte Rogers and wife, Marlene of McCook; one sister, Joan and husband, Ralph Patrick of Manderson, Wyo.; 22 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, 10 a.m., at the Church of Christ in Arapahoe with the Rev. Scott Guthrie officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.

Viewing and visitation is today until 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe and prior to services Wednesday at the church.
