Dorothy Josephine 'Jo' Gerver

Dorothy Josephine "Jo" Gerver, 87, died Wednesday (June 11, 2003) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

She was born July 17, 1915, at St. Joseph, Mo., to Edward Joseph and Mamie Ruth (Wooley) Toohey. Her father died the day she was born. Her mother remarried in 1916, to James Henry Cross. Together they would raise her and her six siblings. The family located in several places as her father was a carpenter by trade. They settled in St. Francis, where she finished her education. She worked for her Aunt Hattie at the St. Francis Cafe for many years.

On Nov. 27, 1933, she married Ervin W. Gerver at St. Francis. To this union four children were born. In 1951, they moved to the McCook community. In 1997, they moved to North Platte and lived at Oakview Manor. She had been residing at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook for the past two years.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church. She had received the Master Angler Award for fishing.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Ervin on Oct. 8, 2001; two daughters, Clara Ruth Gerver and JoAnn Gerver; two brothers, Edward Toohey and Earl Cross; and three sisters, Faith Morris, Maxine Langendofer and Naomi Abbott.

Survivors include her son, Gene Gerver and wife, Joan, of McCook; daughter, Alice J. and husband, Patrick O'Dea, of North Platte; one sister, Betty and husband, Legouri "Goody" Bombardier, of Jamestown, Kan.; nine grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday, 2 p.m., at Carpenter Breland Chapel on with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.

Visitation will be today until 8 p.m. and Saturday until time of service.

Memorials may be given in her name.
