Maxine 'Mickey' Mintling

OSHKOSH -- Maxine "Mickey" Mintling, 82, died Monday (Aug. 18, 2003) at the Garden County Nursing Home in Oshkosh.

She was born Oct. 2, 1920, to Clara and Selar Leffler in Geneva. She moved with her family to Hayes Center in 1930. She graduated from Hayes County High School in May 1937 and attended Kearney Teachers College for two years. Afterwards, she taught in a one-room school for four years.

On June 12, 1941, she married Merle D. Mintling of Hayes Center. After World War II, the couple lived in Hayes Center until 1952, when they moved to Kearney where she operated the Buffalo Motel. In 1958, her husband took a position in Washington D.C. The couple returned to Hayes Center in 1961. In 1969, the couple moved again to Lincoln until 1972, where the couple moved back to Hayes County. After her husbands death she moved to Oshkosh.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Douglas; her husband, Merle; and one brother, Don Leffler.

Survivors include one son, Barry Mintling and wife, Beverley of Waverly, Va.; one daughter, Jacki Ardissono and husband, Chuck of Oshkosh; one brother, Bill Leffler and his wife, Betty of Scottsbluff; one sister, Bonnie Clark of St. Louis, Mo.; and three granddaughters and several great-grandchildren.

Services are Friday, 11 a.m., at the Hayes Center Cemetery in Hayes Center with Pastor Fay Ann Blaylock officiating.

Friends may call the Holechek Funeral Home in Oshkosh Thursday, 1-5 p.m.

Memorials may be given to Garden County Nursing Home and Hospital in Oshkosh or to the First Congregational Church of Hayes Center.
